What makes our kitchen course different to all the others out there?

We do this s**t for a living! We have been decorators for over 25 years and have been spraying kitchens for 20 of those years. We now run The Kitchen Painting Network along with our sons, so when we say we spray kitchens, we really mean it. We're constantly testing the newest paints on the market, not just for our courses, but also for our customers. Every week, we're refining our systems, and all this knowledge is shared with our students.

Who are these guys? Aiden, Ian's middle son, is the main sprayer. He is amazing at it, although he has been spraying on-site with Ian since he was 13! Liam, Ian's oldest son, is the brains of KPN. He has also been on-site with Ian since the age of 12, but now he runs the business and the marketing. Lastly, we have Ryan, Ian's nephew. He is the newest member of the team and has recently started spraying in the workshop. He also fits all of the doors and makes sure everything is put together before they hand over the kitchen.

So yes, our kitchen course is more than just a course, its an opportunity to absorb 25 years of experience along with techniques, products and systems that really work in today's world. Vanity over value! This is one phrase you'll hear Ian say a lot, and it might be one that ruffles a few feathers.

So what does it mean?

Well here's an example. Our kitchen spraying system includes two coats on the front and one coat on the back; why?
Because that is all it needs, and this is what we invoice the customers for.

If you are the kind of person who is like oh, but it needs one more coat, then charge for it.

Now, don't get this misconstrued; I am not telling you to charge your customers and not deliver the service. This is all about knowing your paints, systems and business so well that you can confidently offer an incredible service and finish without the detriment to your bottom line.

Vanity over value, remember that!

Happy Monday!

Today we have a little Top Tip about tips.
Tips can be confusing with all their uses, dimensions, orifices, applications and everything else. In this video we explain how they work mechanically.

So let's take a 310 tip for example.
The 3 represent the angle of 30 degrees, if you times that by two, that gives you the size of your fan pattern, which in this case would be 6 inches.

The same applies to other tips, for example if you had a 510 you would do the same calculation 5x2 = 10 giving you a 10" fan pattern.

Top Tip for skinny people like Ian, who struggle to lift those 25kg drums of paint into a hopper! 😂

We get a bucket of water and a jug, dip it in the water, then into the paint, pour it in the hopper, and you're done. No fighting with the 25kg weight! But for those less scrawny than Ian, fair play, crack on and lift that drum 💪.

So that is our little top tip; I hope it helped!

In our experience, a door with runs. Every time
Why? Because a door with runs teaches you things, like speed and distance and also helps you to understand the paint better.

You can tell a lot about paint by the runs on a door!

Why have we always run group courses? This topic has always been up for debate.

Some say 1-2-1 (one-to-one) works better, and maybe it does for some. But we've always believed group courses offer benefits you can't get with 1-2-1.

With 5-6 people in a group, you get 5-6 different mistakes and 5-6 different questions and answers - things you might never have thought of.

So yeah, some people might feel more comfortable with 1-2-1 courses, but you know what they say, 'getting out of your comfort zone is the way to grow.' Just keep these benefits in mind when you're deciding on your next learning method.

The Mirka Leros!

Mirka, have done it again—another great machine! Yeah, the Mirka Leros is expensive, but when we worked it out, we found that we earned back the cost before even finishing the project!

If you calculate the amount of time it would take to sand the wall area on the job and the number of times we would actually sand, e.g., sand mist coat, and just before the final coat, we found that the time saved in labour paid for the machine almost immediately.

If you haven't already, we recommend getting a Mirka Leros; it is a game-changer!
